Our New Chief Of Police
The Four Corners Police Department has hired Robert Severude as police chief. Severude is the son of the late city of Barron Police Chief Ole Severude. Ole Severude was also a one-time Barron County Sheriff, later serving as chairman of the Barron County Board of Supervisors.
Robert Severude is a fourth generation law enforcement officer with over 17 years experience in law enforcement.
"The Four Corners name refers to the far reaches of our respective counties: Barron, Rusk, Sawyer and Washburn," Town of Cedar Lake Chairman Jon Sleik said.
"For 19 years, the town of Cedar Lake has contracted with the town of Birchwood for our police coverage. In October 2010, that contract ended," Sleik said, noting there were some issues relating to that development. Sleik said the towns of Wilson and Edgewater had also contracted in the past with Birchwood for police coverage. Those contracts also ended in 2010. "For police services, Birchwood now covers only Birchwood," he said.
Sleik explained that while the official population of the town of Cedar Lake might appear small, many in the town are seasonal residents because of the many lake homes there. "Cedar Lake holds 9 percent of equalized property value in Barron County; the city of Rice Lake, by contrast, holds 15 percent," Sleik said.
"Because of the lakefront property, for 19 years we have chosen to have supplemental coverage, because in the off season, unoccupied summer cabins and homes can be an attractive place for thieves and drug users to possibly burglarize," Sleik said.
